Trip to Chicago

Barrs and Dions.jpg

As some of you may know my wife and I just finished a move to Chicago, IL. I will be attending Moody Bible Institute here in the fall. We are both so excited, I'm convinced that God is going to do amazing things with us here.

I wanted to extend the blessing of all the provisions God has secured for us in this migration.

1. Although I drive a '92 Saab, and Monique's parents came with us in a used pickup, we had no vehicle problems along the way; Praise God!

2. All of our furniture and other assets are safe and have suffered zero injury.

3. We had a little trouble the day we moved out in getting our entire security deposit returned to us, but that has worked out fine as well. Our landlord was originally only going to return half of our initial deposit.

U3 Uninstaller

If you've purchased a new USB Thumb Drive recently you may have run into this problem: U3.
U3 is a functionality built into several new thumb drives (namely of the "SanDisk" family), that allows you to run applications right off the drive.

The thing is, that when you insert your thumb drive, U3 will actually mount itself as an additional drive. This can be quite frustrating. Especially if you don't even want to use the applications that come with U3; not to mention the disk space that is exhausted for the install.

Well you're in luck, if you want to destroy that pesky U3 launchpad, download the uninstaller here: http://www.u3.com/uninstall/, and zap the bug.
The removal utility will format your thumb drive, so make sure to back up all the data stored on it.

Killbox

Killbox is a neat little utility that makes file deletion a breeze. Very often when I am cleaning a computer of Malware, I will eventually identify a malicious application and attempt to remove it. However, if the program is in memory then no matter what I do I won't be able to delete the file. Enter Killbox.

When you find one of these persistent files/folders, tell killbox where it is and how to kill it; worst case scenario, killbox will remove the file after a reboot.

My favorite part about it, is that Killbox is a stand-alone executable. So carrying it around on a thumb drive is a breeze.

SIW

SIW is an advanced System Information for Windows tool that gathers detailed information about your system properties and settings and displays it in an extremely comprehensible manner.

SIW is so powerful it has the ability to recover lost passwords, show you your windows product key, your motherboard's PCI devices (useful for locating drivers), and perform several network commands.

What I really like about the software is that it comes in a standalone *.exe file, which is very convenient to me as a computer repair/troubleshooting guy. I can carry this small 1.7 MB file on a cheap flash drive and perform many tasks.

RepairPal

This website is so resourceful, no doubt it belongs in this section! If your car breaks down or needs to be repaired don't bring it to a shop before visiting this site.

Repairpal will take in your cars information: Make, Model, Year, etc. then your zip code and determine how much you should expect to pay for the repair and not get ripped off.

I have a good feeling that this site will bring a little more accountability to the realm of auto repair; and also encourage faith in honest mechanics.
