History

This page is meant to explain the history of how I settled down with the current domain name for this site, and why it is I decided to use Drupal.

2010 - Summer

Domain Name:
godbyte.com
Framework:
Drupal 6 and Custom Theme

Still with Drupal 6 until version 7 is released, and hopefully that will be within the next year or so. The theme is entirely custom built. I've relied on the 960 Grid System and parts of the Zen theme for help. The color scheme I used came from Adobe's Kuler website. I couldn't find the color scheme there anymore, somebody must have removed it. I uploaded my own copy here. Some of the colors were also influenced by mustardseedmedia.com. I've titled the theme "Godbyte Scratch."

2009 - Summer

Domain Name:
godbyte.com
Framework:
Drupal 6

Brand new dark theme ported from the Wordpress theme Simplicity Dark. Added rating. Major content areas are the same as they were at their initial conception: blog, websites, programs. Site is fluid, simple, clear. Just fixed the RSS feeds, they now include full body description and screenshots. Enjoy!

2008 Winter

Domain Name:
godbyte.com
Framework:
Drupal 5

At the time I was using Wordpress we were still using Startlogic as a hosting company. Over a short time I decided that I would switch to a different hosting server, so I was able to register for a new domain name. After short consideration, godbyte became our new home. The point of the website after all these years was to have a christian/technology mashup, and the domain godbyte summarizes those things in a smooth manner.

Perhaps further down the road gobyte.com will have it's own custom theme, but I don't think I'm ready to tackle that goat yet.

2007

Domain Name:
platip.us
Framework:
Wordpress

Although Wordpress was primarily an open-source blogging software, I had read some articles on converting Wordpress to a Content Management System (CMS), and decided that I would give my best shot at it. Additionally the MySQL database for my downloads and resource section were getting a little out of hand and becoming very bloated. I'm still working on a conventional means to properly sort everything in Drupal, but I decided at the time that I would primarily focus on a Blog.

2006

Domain Name:
geekammo.com
Framework:
Custom XHTML / CSS / PHP (with MySQL Database)

The second website was redesigned with the original intent on being completely database driven and XHTML 1.0 Transitional Compliant. At the time I really knew nothing about convention, and even less about design, but I was learning how to do it on my own.

2005

Domain Name:
codybarr.com
Framework:
HTML and Free CSS Template

The first ever website we had was made in 2005. I decided that I wanted a website where I could organize all of the freeware applications and web resources I've come to love and promote them on the web. I used a black-and-yellow "bumblebee" style html/css template, that I thought looked really cool. I also started to learn how to use php to interface with a mysql database. After a while I found the css template to be rather limiting and I decided that I would build one myself from scratch.
