I hate to categorize Enso with other application launchers, because it is so much more than that. Enso attempts to connect computing with language. Enso appears to be rather original in its approach, but for those familiar, it breathes of language like Ubiquity and Application Launcher/Searcher like Quicksilver.

Some of the features of Enso (with all of the beta packages installed) include: application launching (with custom aliasing), dictionary support, google map integration, window management/manipulation, and media player controls.

There is quite a bit of documentation on their website as to what exactly Enso is, if you want the specifics. Here are a few things that I believe characterize this application: its simplicity (very fast and sleek interface), quasimodal (has no initiator key combo per say, but intends to act the same way the shift key does - in typing commands while holding down its designated key), and is in early beta.

Even though Enso is young, it certainly has a lot of potential. His designers have several videos on their website detailing the direction they want Enso to go. Something to look forward to is an enhanced and simplified developer API. Enso is already extensible, but a revamped API will greatly aid in proficient development.

If you want to grab a copy of all the currently released beta packages head over to: http://humanized.com/enso/beta/all. Enso has already enhanced my productivity. Oh, and did I mention its open-source?

Ever notice those small icons in your address bar to the left of the URL? These are called favicons. They are small graphics that allow web designers to add a small icon to the URL so that their site can be easily identified.

The first step in getting your favicon up and running is to of course create it. Unfortunately *.ico files are not very standard, so in order to create one you'll need a special program. Enter IcoFX. This neat little program provides a nice interface for editing your small graphic. With controls similar to that of Microsoft Paint, you'll find it quite easy to edit a good graphic for your site.

Killbox is a neat little utility that makes file deletion a breeze. Very often when I am cleaning a computer of Malware, I will eventually identify a malicious application and attempt to remove it. However, if the program is in memory then no matter what I do I won't be able to delete the file. Enter Killbox.

When you find one of these persistent files/folders, tell killbox where it is and how to kill it; worst case scenario, killbox will remove the file after a reboot.

My favorite part about it, is that Killbox is a stand-alone executable. So carrying it around on a thumb drive is a breeze.

Google Chrome

A few days ago a friend of mine asked me if I had tried out Google's new web browser. I didn't know about the release yet, and asked him to make sure he wasn't mistaken (as I had heard about several hoaxes). Well, he was right! Google released a browser last Sunday called Google Chrome.

I wrote a few notes from what I've read on the web, and decided to blog about it. Here we go:

Google Browser...Why?

The idea behind the creation of YAWB (yet another web browser), by the hands of the gargantuan company is pretty simplistic - The Web has changed over time; but browsers have not. Google says, "Why not start from scratch and design a web browser that accommodates the current state of the web?" And they have done just that.

SIW is an advanced System Information for Windows tool that gathers detailed information about your system properties and settings and displays it in an extremely comprehensible manner.

SIW is so powerful it has the ability to recover lost passwords, show you your windows product key, your motherboard's PCI devices (useful for locating drivers), and perform several network commands.

What I really like about the software is that it comes in a standalone *.exe file, which is very convenient to me as a computer repair/troubleshooting guy. I can carry this small 1.7 MB file on a cheap flash drive and perform many tasks.
