Dropbox

What is the easiest way to backup and sync files across multiple platforms? The answer is Dropbox. This amazing web service, recently opened to public beta is awesome! As a student this resource is so valuable. I take my macbook to classes and take notes, write papers, etc. I want to make absolutely sure that all of my time-consuming research is secure and redundantly backed up in several locations. Dropbox is a unique file backup service in that it will take a directory of your choosing, upload those files to its own server, then distribute those files immediately to all of your designated machines. A small client application configured with your dropbox account credentials aids in the folder selection, file upload, and syncing processes.

A basic account comes with 2GB of FREE storage, which can be upgraded if you want a payed account.

Bug.gd is an interesting web service. Have you ever received a cryptic error message from windows or an application that just completely boggled you? Or have you received an error message and understood it but simply could not find the underlying cause for the problem? Well if you have you may want to consult this website's database in an attempt to identify the problem. Just search for the error exactly as it appears and bug.gd will try and match it with currently open and resolved error reports, giving you some options to try and resolve the issue.

This website is so resourceful, no doubt it belongs in this section! If your car breaks down or needs to be repaired don't bring it to a shop before visiting this site.

Repairpal will take in your cars information: Make, Model, Year, etc. then your zip code and determine how much you should expect to pay for the repair and not get ripped off.

I have a good feeling that this site will bring a little more accountability to the realm of auto repair; and also encourage faith in honest mechanics.

I have found that every explanation of twitter is the same, so I'm not going to reinvent the wheel in this post, simply provide the information:

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Picnik

In an earlier post I had mentioned a free image resizer, but it fails in comparison to this beautiful gem.

It's integration with other popular Web 2.0 sites is simply breathtaking, literally. It has the ability to upload photos from your computer, Flickr, Picasa Web, Facebook, Myspace, a website URL, Yahoo Search, *gasps for air*, Freewebs, Photobucket, and Webshots; oh yeah it'll also grab from an external web/video cam, awesome!

Picnik is an online image editing program, and while no comparison to the divine Photoshop, it has some pretty useful tools. Among them are: rotate, crop, resize, exposure, colors, sharpen, red-eye. Additionally you can add effects, text, shapes, and frames too.
